Today is the 80th anniversary of D-Day, which was the largest amphibious invasion in military history.
The United States Exercise Tiger Foundation will be holding a ceremony at 11 am at the Boone County War Memorial plaza, which is next to the Boone County Courthouse in downtown Columbia. There will be 137 American flags on the courthouse lawn, representing all 137 Boone County and mid-Missouri American servicemen and women who died in World War II.
A 99-year-old World War II veteran who lives at Lenior Woods, Robert Lawrence Bartlett, will also be honored at the event. While he wasn’t at D-Day, he served in the Pacific.
