A farmer from mid-Missouri’s Martinsburg has been killed in Tuesday night’s severe thunderstorms in Audrain County.

Former 939 the Eagle reporter Mathew Pilger, who is now with Mexico radio station KXEO, reports farmer Mike Ahrens was killed when putting a tractor in a shed on a farm. Audrain County Sheriff Matt Oller tells Mr. Pilger that a power pole snapped and knocked Mr. Ahrens off the tractor.

Our news partner KMIZ reports Mr. Ahrens frequently collaborated with local first responders, who used his farm as a training ground for operating fire trucks.

The National Weather Service (NWS) in St. Louis issued a severe thunderstorm warning for Audrain County on Tuesday evening, and there were power outages in Mexico. The storm knocked multiple power lines down in the city of Mexico
