Columbia city manager De’Carlon Seewood says the city is grappling with a housing crisis.

The Columbia Board of Realtors says the average price of a home sold in April increased four percent to $396,000, while the median home price sold increased to $360,000. Reinhardt Construction vice president Susan Hart joined host Fred Parry in-studio Saturday morning on 939 the Eagle’s “CEO Roundtable.” Ms. Hart tells Fred that child care and housing are critical.

“And if we don’t address those issues, we’re not going to have those individuals that are going into the beginning, mid-part of their career staying in our community,” Hart tells listeners.

Columbia’s city council has approved a new Housing and Neighborhood Services department, led by new director Becky Thompson. Mr. Seewood says there’s a shortage of housing, especially affordable housing, in Columbia.
