A Boone County jury is hearing from additional prosecution witnesses this morning in an Ashland murder trial.

22-year-old Robin Morales-Sanchez is charged with second degree murder and armed criminal action for the July 2021 stabbing death of 47-year-old Moises Hernandez-Sanchez. The victim was stabbed to death in a yard.

Both men worked at Ashland’s Jose Jalapeno’s. Our news partner, KMIZ’s Reagan Phillips, reports testimony indicates there was a dispute and a fight among Jose Jalepeno’s employees after a July 2021 soccer game between the United States and Mexico. Morales-Sanchez’s attorney says it was self-defense.

The suspect was captured in Kansas in August 2021.

Boone County assistant prosecutor Susan Boresi is prosecuting the case. The federal government has also filed a federal immigration detainer on Morales-Sanchez, according to the Boone County Sheriff Department’s website.
