Federal dollars from the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) will be used to expand Boone Hospital Center’s progressive care unit (PCU).
Boone County commissioners have awarded $475,000 in federal ARPA dollars to Columbia-based Boone Health, which says the enhanced PCU will ensure that Boone Health remains a leader in delivering high-quality, specialized medical services. Boone Health says the money will enhance Boone Hospital’s capacity to provide advanced care for high-acuity patients in the region. Those are patients with long-term medical conditions that require specialized care.
Boone Health says the expanded PCU will also serve as an overflow for cardiology patients, ensuring that specialized care is always available.
Boone Hospital Center has 1,581 employees and is the sixth-largest employer in Columbia/Boone County, according to 2024 numbers from Columbia Regional Economic Development Incorporated (REDI). President Joe Biden signed the American Rescue Plan Act in 2021.
