Columbia Regional Airport’s (COU) manager remains optimistic about daily service from COU to Charlotte.

Airport manager Michael Parks tells 939 the Eagle that they continue to have conversations with American Airlines (AA) regarding the Charlotte route and the timing of its introduction into the Columbia market. Mr. Parks and Columbia Regional Economic Development Incorporated (REDI) president Stacey Button traveled to Arizona in late February to meet with American and other airlines to discuss additional service from COU.

Fort Worth-based American Airlines made a pre-pandemic commitment to provide twice-daily service from COU to Charlotte. The U-S Department of Transportation awarded Columbia a small community air service development grant to assist with the startup for that service. Mr. Parks says he will provide updates regarding timing as they learn more from American.

COU is served by American Airlines. It currently offers non-stop flights from Columbia to Dallas/Fort Worth and Chicago O’Hare international airports.
