Showers and potential thunderstorms are in the forecast for Columbia, Jefferson City and much of mid-Missouri on the Fourth of July tomorrow.
Columbia’s fire in the sky fireworks display at Stephens Lake park is still scheduled to take place tomorrow night at 9:15. City spokeswoman Sydney Olsen tells 939 the Eagle that Columbia Parks and Recreation staff is monitoring the forecast closely:
“They’re going to make a determination on the event itself the day of (Thursday). And that’s because as we know here in mid-Missouri weather does change and can rather quickly,” Ms. Olsen says.
Fire in the sky is scheduled to begin tomorrow night at 6:30 with children’s activities, food trucks and entertainment, capped off with fireworks. Olsen says Go COMO transit will provide a free shuttle service tomorrow between all six downtown Columbia parking garages and Stephens Lake park. They’ll run continuously for six hours:
“So anyone who is planning to attend Fire in the Sky can park downtown and easily get a ride over there. And those will be running from 5 pm until 11 pm,” Olsen says.
She says you’ll be able to track the location of the free Go COMO shuttles by using the DoubleMap app. Keep your radio tuned to 939 the Eagle for any updated information about the fireworks display.
Columbia’s website says this will be the city’s 72nd annual Fourth of July celebration.
