Columbia’s city council is expected to vote this evening to set three public hearings on city manager De’Carlon Seewood’s proposed budget.

Mr. Seewood plans to deliver his budget address at city hall next Thursday July 25 at city hall. The council will hold a budget work session on July 29. Under the proposed bill, the three budget public hearings would take place: August 5, August 19 and September 3.

Columbia’s fiscal year begins on October 1, so the budget must be approved by then.

Columbia’s current operating budget is about $533-million, which included $10-million in pay raises for the city’s 1,500 city employees. City employee compensation has been one of Mr. Seewood’s top priorities.

Tonight’s meeting begins at 7 at city hall.
