(LISTEN): Columbia Mayor Barbara Buffaloe discusses COLT railroad and previews tonight’s council meeting on “Wake Up Mid-Missouri”

Columbia’s city council will hear a short presentation tonight from resident Tanner Ott, who will call on the city to convert a section of the COLT railroad into a community-focused greenway park and trail. The COLT railroad is owned by the city and is operated by Columbia Utilities. Mayor Barbara Buffaloe joined us live this morning on 939 the Eagle’s “Wake Up Mid-Missouri,” noting that the COLT railroad was originally designed to get coal to the power plant. Mayor Buffaloe tells 939 the Eagle that Mr. Ott’s call is exciting and has been talked about for some time. She says Mr. Ott wants the city to move the project up, with the aim being to create an exciting and energetic area. She says the proposed park would be built in Columbia’s popular Arcade district. The theme of the Arcade district is where innovation thrives. The proposed park would be near Columbia College and also near the popular Pasta La Fata and Walt’s Bike shop. Mayor Buffaloe also discussed the two bills that will be voted on tonight involving short-term rentals:
