The American Red Cross’ central and northern Missouri chapter in Columbia says donors of all blood types are currently in demand, especially those with type O blood and donors giving platelets.

Mid-Missourians have three opportunities to donate blood Friday in Columbia. The American Red Cross is holding three events in Columbia tomorrow: from 8 am until 2:30 at the Columbia blood donation center on South Providence, from 10 am to 3 pm at University Hospital and from 11 am until 3 pm at Columbia Mall.

The American Red Cross says every donation counts in the mission to keep blood products stocked for patients. They also note more than a quarter of all blood products each year are used in critical care and emergency room cases, highlighting the importance of generous blood and platelet donors.
